A Twist on Wedding Reception Traditions!

A wedding is very special and I love when couples are able to infuse personal touches into their day. Here are 4 great ways to add a twist to your wedding reception.

Welcome to the Family
During the cake cutting, join the families together by having both the bride and groom not only cut a slice a cake for themselves, but also cut a slice of cake for their new parents-in-law. The groom will take a slice of cake to his new mother-in-law, followed by the bride. (My wedding coordinator had my husband and I do this at our wedding. It was great! ;-))

Daddy's Little Girl
Start the reception with the Father of the Bride introducing the newly married couple. Such a sweet touch.

Anniversary Dance
This dance can be done two ways. The first is to have your MC invite all of the married couples up to the dance floor for a special song and during the course of the song couples will be asked to go back to their seat based on the number of years they've been married, staring with the bride and groom. As the song continues and the couples thin out, you will be left with one couple remaining to finish out the song. Your guests will naturally applaud in recognition. The second way is to have your MC invite married couples up to the dance floor based on the number of years they've been married, starting with the bride and groom. Soon you will have a dance floor full of people and this will kick-off the dancing portion of the reception.

Last Dance
As the wedding reception comes to a close, have your MC ask all of your guests (and vendors) to exit the room for an intimate last dance with only the bride and groom in the room.

Happy Planning!
